Easy Easter Treats

Easter is just around the corner.  Here's an Easter treat that's so easy to DIY. And it is a project that the kids can get involved with too.  Perfect for creating some Easter family memories.

Step 1 : Download a Free "Bunny Tails" printable online... there are loads to choose from. Print them out on good quality white paper or card and cut them out folding across the top to make an "A frame".

Step 2: Get yourself some cellophane bags, fluffy white marshmallows (you can eat the pink ones) and a bag of colourfully wrapped mini solid eggs.

Step 3: Place a handful of fluffy white marshmallows (aka "Bunny Tails") into a cellophane bag with a mini solid egg or two - just for good measure.

Step 4: Affix the cut out "A frames" over the top of the cello bag and staple together.

Step 5: Cuteness in a bag!!! ENJOY!

It is as easy as that - and the kids love to help!

Beat the Heat with our Mango Smoothie

We love Smoothies and today was the perfect weather for a bit of Mango Madness!!!



We took a healthy helping of fresh mango (but use frozen if you don't have fresh), ice, water and Arbonne Vanilla Protein Powder (available here: http://bit.ly/17dNvYw ) and psyllium husks.

We blitzed it in the Thermomix for about a minute until it was all smooth and creamy and the ice was all crushed.

Delicious!! A little taste of summer - It was perfect for this warm weather!
 

BABY NEWS!!

We love a good baby story at My Natural Bliss and this one kind of feels like it is news from one of the family...... Sally Fletcher’s having a baby!

I grew up with Sally Fletcher on my screens, and I recall being a little bit devastated for her when on Home & Away Sally had a hysterectomy at a very young age leaving her unable to have children...

Well, real life is better than life in Summer Bay!

Today I read on Mamamia

"Former Home and Away actress Kate Ritchie has revealed she’s pregnant.

The 35-year-old told Women’s Day magazine: “We have some amazing news — I’m going to be a mum!”

Kate, who is currently hosting Nova’s national drive show, married Stuart Webb back in 2010.

This will be their first child together."

The food that you put into your mouth fuels your body, so every time you eat ask yourself – Am I eating food that will optimise or deplete my energy levels?

Fresh, whole, unprocessed, real foods are the key to vibrant energy levels. We’re talking vegetables, salads, fruits, nuts and seeds, legumes and good quality animal products such as fish, eggs, meats and dairy.

Packaged, refined, man-made, processed foods have so little nutrition and contain so much junk they leave you depleted. The problem is, these energy depleting foods usually give you an immediate but short lived high. We can become hooked on that much needed high without thinking too much of the consequences. The marketing of these foods means they can be in the forefront of our minds when we are rushing around the shops, with whining children in hand. We don’t have time to stop and read labels and work out which brand is the healthiest choice. Besides, we are so confused about all of the conflicting information on nutrition out there, we’re not even sure what we are looking for. So we buy the jar of pre made sauce to pour over our chicken dish, the rice that only needs to be microwaved for 2 minutes, the bread and breakfast cereal that say ‘high in fibre’, the cheapest milk in the fridge (milk's milk, right?), the marinated meat (to save time), the muesli bars that we saw on television, the yoghurt with the characters on it (to prevent a tantrum) and the diet soft drinks/sodas (because we’re trying to lose some weight). We get fooled by the large print health claims ‘fat free’, ‘reduced sugar’, ‘no artificial colours or flavours’, ‘reduced salt’, ‘no cholesterol’, because that’s all we have time to read!

As a mum convenience is everything! Our ‘to do’ lists are never ending so the less time we have to spend in the kitchen the better. By the end of the day our tiredness can be overwhelming. The thing is if we keep doing what we’ve always done, nothing is going to change. We need to dig deep to find some motivation and energy to start shopping and preparing food differently, and I’m here to tell you it isn’t as hard as you might think.

Here are my top tips to start eating for long term energy rather than quick fixes.

• Make vegetables and salads the main component of your diet.
• Include protein at every meal in the form of eggs, fish, chicken, meat, nuts, legumes and dairy.
• Include 1-2 pieces of fruit in your diet daily.
• Include healthy fats in your diet every day in the form of fish, nuts, seeds and healthy oils.
• Limit grains in your diet to no more than 1 serve a day OR eliminate them completely.
• Flavour your foods with fresh herbs, good quality spices, sea salt, garlic, ginger and other natural ingredients.
• Drink plenty of filtered water and herbal teas.
• Reduce caffeine and alcohol.
• Eat something every 3-4 hours to keep your blood sugar levels stable.
• Get organized and prepared. Stock your kitchen with healthy ingredients and do some big batch cooking.
• Eat fermented foods regularly.
• Eat Raw Foods every day.
• Make your own Bone broths to use in soups, casseroles and sauces.
